Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. An account is optional. Taskvale works fully without one, and your tasks stay on your device.
An account is only needed for backup and sync. Creating one is free, and it is what lets your tasks survive a lost, broken, or replaced phone, and appear on more than one device. Backup and sync are free for everyone and are not part of Taskvale Pro.
Is Taskvale free?
Yes. Taskvale is free to use, and only the illustrated scenes are paid.
Free for everyone:
- Unlimited tasks, lists, and reminders, with no ads
- Recurring tasks, and the optional alarm
- Backup and sync across devices
- Task history, stats, and badges
- Read my day, task sharing, dark mode, and all 14 languages
- Four places to keep your tasks: Notepad, Cork board, Calendar, and The Cabin
Taskvale Pro adds:
- The seven animated scenes: Coral Reef, Zen Garden, Koi Pond, Shell Beach, The Far Ice, The Meadow, and Scenic Valley
- Every new scene as it is added
Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription, and there is also a one-time Lifetime purchase.
How long is the free trial?
Seven days, with no card. You do not enter payment details to start the trial, and nothing is charged when it ends.
Every scene is unlocked during the trial. Afterwards Taskvale returns to the free tier. Your tasks, lists, and history are unchanged.
Will Taskvale remind me about a task?
Yes, for any task with a date and time. Each task has its own number of reminders: none at all, one at the due time, or several beforehand. An optional alarm-clock style alert is also available — e.g. sign up for class at 9:00.
Why did I not get a notification?
Check these in order.
- The task needs a date and time, and at least one reminder. A task set to no reminders will not notify you.
- Notifications must be allowed for Taskvale, in iOS Settings → Notifications → Taskvale.
- If your phone is in silent mode, the notification still arrives, but it makes no sound.
- A Focus such as Do Not Disturb, Sleep, or Reduce Interruptions does not hold Taskvale reminders back. They are sent as time-sensitive, which is designed to come through a Focus.
To be alerted even when the phone is in silent mode, turn on Alarm for that task. It rings like a Clock alarm and ignores the silent switch. The alarm asks for its own permission, separate from notifications, and needs iOS 26 or later.
Can a task repeat?
Yes. A task can repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or at other intervals — e.g. water the plants every three days.
Can I send a task to someone else?
Yes. Send one task or several by email or text message, from the Notepad or the task editor — e.g. pick up the kids, sent to a partner.
What happens to a task after I complete it?
It moves to Task History, reached from the button at the bottom right of the scene. Completed tasks are kept, so you can look back at them, see your stats, and earn badges. If you complete a task by mistake, you can restore it from there.
How do I manage multiple lists?
Taskvale supports separate lists for school, work, home, and anything else. Turn on Multiple lists in Settings → Tasks and Scene settings.
A list button then appears at the top of the scene. Use it to switch lists, or choose All Lists to see everything at once. Tasks you have not filed appear under Uncategorized. Use Manage Lists to add, rename, and remove lists.
What is a task filter?
A filter narrows the scene to part of your list: Due Today, Scheduled, Flagged, or All.
Filters are off by default, so every task is shown. Turn them on in Settings → Tasks and Scene settings → Task Filters. A filter pill then appears in the top bar, with the same options on the quick-access button. With filters off, the pill is hidden and all tasks are shown.
What if I have too many tasks to fit on the screen?
No task is hidden. The scene pages, and you swipe sideways to reach the rest.
To fit more on each screen, open Settings → Tasks and Scene settings and raise Max tasks per screen.
What is Read my day?
Read my day is a spoken summary of your tasks. Tap the speaker button at the bottom of any scene and Taskvale reads out what is due today and what is already overdue.
Useful when you are not looking at the screen — e.g. while making breakfast, or driving to work. It speaks in the language Taskvale is set to, and you can choose the voice in Settings.
Can I turn off motivational quotes?
Yes. Open Settings → Tasks and Scene settings and turn off Motivational quotes.
Does Taskvale have a dark mode?
Yes. Light and dark themes, or automatic to follow your device. Set it in Settings → Appearance.
Can I change the text size, or use Taskvale left-handed?
Yes, both are in Settings → Appearance. Pick a font and text size there, and set Layout to Left-handed to move the scene controls to the other side.
The text size applies inside Taskvale, so you do not have to change it for your whole phone.
What languages does Taskvale support?
Fourteen. Taskvale follows your device language, and you can also select a language in Settings.
Is Taskvale available on Android?
Not yet. Taskvale is available on iOS today, and an Android release is in progress. Sign up on the home page and we will email you when it is available.
How do I request a feature or report a bug?
Use the contact page. Pick a Topic — Feature request, Bug report, Question, or Account or privacy — and describe what you need. You can also write to support@taskvale.app.
